Olathe, Kan.–The Statesmen women’s soccer team failed to keep pace with #23 MidAmerica Nazarene Saturday, falling 5-0 in Heart of America Athletic Conference action.

William Penn (6-9-1, 1-8 Heart), which was outshot 24-7, including 8-1 in the first stanza, trailed just 1-0 at intermission. The Pioneers (13-1-1, 8-1 Heart) tallied their lone early goal just 84 seconds into action, but were stymied the remainder of the period.

The hosts unfortunately were more successful in their second-half attempts, scoring in the 53rd, 60th, 66th, and 75th minutes.

Tori Teanio (Fr., Hilo, Hawaii, Physical Education) and Ashley Broeker (Sr., Ankeny, Iowa, Exercise Science) each recorded two shots, while Hayley Brothers (Fr., Bonner Springs, Kan., Exercise Science) tallied seven saves in the loss.

“We struggled today against a good MidAmerica Nazarene team,” Head Coach Jaymee Highcock said. “We were right in it at halftime, but we did not play well after the break and failed to create any scoring chances. We need to prepare well and give everything we have against Culver-Stockton next Wednesday.”

Next Up: William Penn hits the road for the final time during the regular season next Wednesday, traveling to Canton, Mo. to face Culver-Stockton in Heart action at 5 p.m.
