WPU Shut Out by Central in Opener

Pella–The Statesmen wrestling team had a tough season opener, falling 52-0 to Central in dual-meet action Thursday.

William Penn (0-1) was unfortunately only able to go the distance in three weights. Matthew Landsperger (Fr., Knoxville, Iowa, Sociology) had the best effort, falling 9-3 to Tanner Zimmerman at 197 pounds.

Nadhelo Charles-Pierre (Jr., Miramar, Fla., Sports Management), with a 10-2 setback against Anthony Rosas at 125, and Darwin Diaz (Fr., Pembroke Pines, Fla., Sociology), with a 9-0 loss to Chance Benadum at 174, also made it to the final whistle.

Next Up: William Penn returns to Oskaloosa next Tuesday to host Waldorf in a non-conference dual at 7 p.m.
