Riverside–The Statesmen men’s golf team improved after each round to tally its highest league finish in five years at the Midwest Collegiate Conference Championships Tuesday and Wednesday.

William Penn placed fourth out of seven teams with a three-round score of 895 (306-299-290) at the par-72 Blue Top Ridge Golf Course. #10 Grand View won the team title for the fifth year in a row at 855 (280-286-289), while Jay Monahan of GVU was the individual medalist at five-under 211 (69-73-69).

The navy and gold’s finish is their highest since 2010. The squad finished the first 18 holes in sixth place, but moved up one rung after both the second and third rounds. The final-round 290 set a new 18-hole school record in regards to par as WPU was just +2 overall on the par-72 layout.

Frederik Lundsgaard (Fr., Jebjerg, Denmark, History/Government) finished 11th out of 35 players at 220 (73-76-71), while Spencer Skipper (Jr., Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, Business Management) was right behind him in a tie for 12th at 222 (79-73-70).

Gareth Sargent (Fr., Knysna, South Africa, Psychology) was in the top 20 as well, taking 19th with rounds of 79-73-75 (227).

Clay Tucker (So., Oskaloosa, Iowa, Business Management) tied for 21st at 229 (78-77-74) and Tyler Lallier (Sr., Algona, Iowa, Business Management) was 28th at 236 (76-82-78).

The tournament ends the collegiate career of Lallier as well as fellow seniors Byron Lindeque (Boksburg, South Africa, General Accounting) and Jeremy Swink (Burlington, Iowa, Physical Education).
