Oskaloosa–The Statesmen wrestling team was unable to pull off an upset Wednesday as it fell 36-13 to #11 Missouri Valley in Heart of America Athletic Conference dual-meet action.

WPU (1-1, 0-1 Heart) lost the opening match by fall, but trimmed the deficit to two when 133-pounder Darquell Pierre (Jr., St. Petersburg, Fla., Sociology) thumped Eric Arias via an 18-5 major decision.

Unfortunately, the margin ballooned as MVC (1-0, 1-0 Heart) claimed the next five bouts. Alex Pham (Fr., Ackworth, Ga.) finally stopped the bleeding by taking down Tyler Crow 7-2 at 184 pounds.

197-pounder Sheldon Rodriguez (Jr., Tampa, Fla., Biology) then caught Dayton Brown in a move and pinned him in a time of 1:47 for the last Statesmen victory. The heavyweight matchup went to the Vikings to conclude the evening.
