Two Second-Half Goals Lead WPU to Shutout Over Concordia (Neb.)
Oskaloosa–A refreshed Statesmen men’s soccer team got back on the pitch for the first time in two weeks, posting a 2-0 non-conference victory over Concordia (Neb.) Saturday.
No. 4 William Penn (2-0-1), which outshot the Bulldogs 19-13, has not allowed a goal since the seventh minute of its opener on August 21. The shutout streak spans over 263 minutes.
While CUNE (1-3) was kept off the board, the navy and gold also struggled getting going as the teams entered intermission locked in a 0-0 tie.
Javier Perez (So., Alicante, Spain, Business Management) kept his hot start to 2026 going by placing a pass from Alexander Greaves (Sr., Hertford, England, Sports Management) into the back of the net at the 52:50 mark.
The Statemen defense, which allowed only one corner kick (five for WPU), continued to be stalwart throughout the evening. Gonzalo Rawinad (Fr., Gijon, Spain, Psychology) then essentially iced the victory as he scored unassisted at the 70:53 juncture.
Rawinad managed a team-best three shots, while five others, including Perez, ended the contest with two attempts.
In a tightly-officiated game that featured 11 yellows (eight on the Statesmen), Sil Milder (Arnhem, Netherlands) secured the shutout by stopping three CUNE shots.
