WPU Continues Season East of Mississippi River

Rock Island, Ill.–The Statesmen cross country teams competed at the other Augustana Friday, running at the Brissman/Lundeen Invitational.

The women were 21st out of 27 teams in the 6K race with 569 points, while the men placed 24th out of 27 teams in the 8K event with 701 points. North Central (Ill.) was the women’s team champion with 67 points, and Wisconsin-Stevens Point collected the men’s title with 43 points.

Dianne Barajas of North Central was first out of 324 runners with a time of 22:02, while Andrea Jaquez (Fr., San Antonio, Texas, Exercise Science) paced William Penn by just finishing outside the top 100 at 105th in a time of 25:10.9.

Talaysia Douver (Fr., Lakewood, Calif.) was runner-up for the navy and gold, taking 135th at 25:41.6, while Zena Cuhuo (Fr., Carrollton, Texas, Exercise Science) placed 177th at 26:31.9. Michelle Reyes (So., Brownsville, Texas, Biology), in 204th at 27:12.7, and Madison Udy (Fr., American Falls, Idaho, Exercise Science), in 230th at 27:51.9, wrapped up the team scoring.

Bree’Anna Lee (Jr., Broken Arrow, Okla., Biology) also completed the course, crossing the line in 237th place at 28:13.3.

Marcus Graham of Indian Hills CC headlined the 331-person men’s field in 24:51.8, while Terry Jackson (Jr., Houston, Alaska, Biology) was the best Statesmen harrier as he took 214th in a time of 29:42.7.

Cameron Shade (So., Riverdale, Ga., Sociology) just missed finishing under 30 minutes as he was 228th at 30:05.7. Jack Miller (Fr., Oskaloosa, Iowa) was next in line, taking 243rd at 30:32, while Joshua Williams (Fr., Atlanta, Ga.) (263rd, 31:29.6) and Gabriel Webster (Fr., Worland, Wyo.) (274th, 32:03.4) rounded out the varsity scoring.

Jacob Fisher (Fr., Albia, Iowa) led the trio of ‘also-rans’, ending up 296th in 33:54.6. Julian Davis (So., Palmer, Alaska, Mechanical Engineering) (299th, 34:21) and Tylor Durbin (Fr., Fremont, Iowa, Business Management) (308th, 35:15.4) were in action as well.

Next Up: William Penn returns to the Quad Cities in two weeks, traveling to Bettendorf on Saturday, October 6 to compete in the St. Ambrose Invitational.
