WPU Battles at Grand View Invite

Ankeny–The Statesmen cross country teams continued their season Saturday at the Grand View Invitational.

The William Penn men finished fourth out of six squads with 113 points, while host Grand View claimed the crown with 38 points. Indian Hills CC was a close runner-up with 45 points. Nolan Rudd of St. Ambrose won the 8K race in a time of 25:17.

The Statesmen women were not able to post a team score in the eight-team race, while Grand View easily finished the sweep with 25 points. GVU’s Morgan Lawson crossed the line first on the 5K course in a time of 18:56.

Vernon Trozzi (Jr., Hesperia, Calif., Exercise Science) guided the navy and gold men in 18th place in 27:14, while William De Jesus (Jr., Homestead, Fla., Biology)was also in the top 25 by finishing 23rd in 27:51.

Ruben Perez-Rodriguez (So., San Antonio, Texas, Business Management), in 28th at 28:13, and Jonah Heckenberg (So., Stockport, Iowa, Business Management), in 29th at 28:17, went back-to-back for WPU, while Brandon Williams (Fr., Fountain, Colo., Civil Engineering) wrapped up the men’s standings in 33rd overall at 28:32.

Isaac Knockel (So., New Sharon, Iowa, Pre-Professional Biology) led the rest of William Penn’s harriers as he was 35th in 28:39.

Delana Jordan (Jr., Addison, Texas, Business Management) paced the women’s crew, placing 20th in 21:48. Michaela Kmiec (Jr., Centerville, Texas, Exercise Science) posted a runner-up finish for the Statesmen as she finished in a time of 22:15 to take 25th.

Talaysia Douver (Sr., Lakewood, Calif., Sociology), in 47th at 23:48, and Roselaure Fuller (Fr., Pella, Iowa, Nursing), in 61st at 27:09, concluded the WPU women’s efforts on Saturday.

Next Up: William Penn travels to Rock Island, Ill. next Friday to compete in the Brissman-Lundeen Invitational hosted by Augustana.
