William Penn University Takes Ownership of Mahaska Bowl and Recreation
Effective May 1, 2014, William Penn University became the owners of Mahaska Bowl and Recreation. The property was gifted to the university on April 30, 2014 with the agreement that Mahaska Bowl and Recreation will remain a separate entity under the umbrella of William Penn University. The transition in ownership will not affect the services offered to patrons from the greater Mahaska County community. The facility will continue to be managed by Mark and Tami Van Wyk and will be open to the public during normal operating hours.
The University has no intention of selling the business, but will oversee operations in support of William Penn’s bowling program. Currently William Penn has 30 students on the men’s and women’s bowling teams. Without this facility it will be difficult to maintain a quality bowling program that is attractive to potential and current student-athletes.
Vice President of Operations, Greg Hafner, has been a part of the transition process since the initial discussions began. “The Bowling Alley has been a great source of recreation in the Oskaloosa community for many years. William Penn University looks forward to being a part of this tradition,” he stated.
