The William Penn University Division of Nursing hosted a Summer Health and Safety Fair on Tuesday, April 26 in the Chief Mahaska Room of the Dana Atkins Memorial Union. Approximately 50 students, staff, and faculty had the opportunity to meet with local vendors and health care providers to learn about topics ranging from smoking cessation to skin care. Dieticians from Mahaska Health Partnership were on hand to demonstrate portion control and healthy food choices and representatives from the Mahaska County YMCA were available to share information about upcoming summer programs and year-round activities offered to members, and non-members, in the community.

Other vendors participating in the event included the Women’s and Men’s Clinic of Ottumwa, the Mahaska County Recreation Foundation, Curves, the Oskaloosa Chamber of Commerce and the Oskaloosa Fire Department.

The RN-BSN students, who were on hand to check willing participant’s body mass index levels, blood pressure, and other vitals, were pleased with the event and would like to thank the vendors for participating.
