Oskaloosa–The Statesmen women’s volleyball team faced off against the Central Methodist University Eagles on Saturday afternoon in Heart of America Athletic Conference action.

The navy and gold played the number 24 ranked Eagles tough but eventually dropped in straight sets (25-18, 25-22, 25-14).

WPU (15-7, 3-4 Heart) was outhit by CMU (18-2, 8-1 Heart) .319-.200

Nashali Cruz (So., Bayamon, P.R., Biology) and Alexis Weatherspoon (Sr., Kansas City, Mo., Physical Education) tied for the team lead in kills with nine apiece. Cruz finished with a .368 hit percentage while Weatherspoon produced a .364 clip.

The two-setter duo of Elena Lucero (Fr., Yuba City, Calif., Political Science) and Haley Smith (Sr., Adrian, Mich., Elementary Education) were once again able to reach double-digit assists apiece with Smith leading the team with 17 and Lucero finishing with 15.

Ashley Miller (Sr., Kalona, Iowa, Exercise Science) led the Statesmen defensively with 17 digs. Tonight’s game gives her a total of 413 on the season.

Next Up: The Statesmen will host Graceland on Tuesday, October 2, in Heart of America Athletic Conference action beginning at 7:00 p.m. in Penn Gymnasium.
