Davenport–The Statesmen men’s bowling team struggled to find the groove Saturday and Sunday as it competed at the ISYL Leatherneck Classic.

WPU placed 32nd out of 44 teams with 7,015 pins. Wichita State (Kan.) led qualifying with 8,433 pins, but was knocked off by #7 seed Mount Mercy in the match play finals 2-1.

Michael Harmon guided the 422-individual standings with 1,143 pins (228.6 average), while Noah Kidwell (Fr., Bettendorf, Iowa, Mechanical Engineering) paced the navy and gold with a 195.8 average in five games.

Conor Fetherston (So., Dublin, Ireland, Software Engineering) was next with a 187.8 clip in four rounds, while Bryce Keykal (Jr., Princeton, Minn., Education) also rolled in four games with a 175.3 average.

Aidan Piet (Fr., Meridian, Idaho, Business Management), at 182.7, and Jared Smith (Sr., Oskaloosa, Iowa, General Accounting), at 135.7, both started three games.

Kody Sapp (Sr., Donnelson, Iowa, Sociology) (175.0), Connor Rissi (Jr., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Psychology) (158.5), and Garraty Richmond (Sr., Ottumwa, Iowa, New Media) (147.5) rounded out the varsity scoring with two games apiece.

William Penn also had a reserve team on the lanes and the Statesmen finished with 7,209 pins to take ninth in the JV standings. Spencer Fleming (Jr., Greensboro, N.C., Business Management) guided his crew with a 180.6 mark in five starts.

Next Up: William Penn travels to Joliet, Ill. next Saturday and Sunday to compete in the NAIA Invitational.
