Oskaloosa–The William Penn Athletics Department is excited to get back to competing, doing so in a safe and healthy manner as it has produced its Return-To-Play plan.

After months of extensive planning and preparation, and by following guidelines from local, regional, and national health experts, and the Heart of America Athletic Conference, WPU has provided a plan that has reasonable mitigation steps, including screening of student-athletes and staff, enhanced testing capabilities, and a focus on personal responsibility and lifestyle adjustments. There will also be changes in game operations and strategies for the ingress and egress of venues.

William Penn will screen all fans and have capacity restrictions at each of its venues. Fans are highly encouraged to buy tickets online at least 48 hours ahead of time and season pass holders must claim their ticket online, 48 hours ahead of time, in order to guarantee attendance. A detailed ticket procedure will be released Wednesday.

The University, which can begin competitions on September 5 for women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s soccer, and men’s and women’s cross country (football can begin on September 12), has followed mandates from the Heart and NAIA as well.

“As we progress in navigating the COVID-19 world, we felt strongly that we needed to do everything in our power to provide student-athletes with the opportunity to have an uncommon, life-shaping experience with reasonable mitigation steps,” Athletics Director Nik Rule said. “These four years that a student attends college are some of the most important four years of their lives and one thing we cannot give them back is the time that is missed due to long-term postponements and cancellations. We are ready to lead our students through this period of time in our history with a practical but bold approach to helping continue their lives. It will not be easy, we know that, but it will be worth it and we are laser-focused on making it happen.”
