William Penn Football 14th in Preseason Rating

Football practice is under way for the William Penn Statesmen

Kansas City, Mo.–The Statesmen gridiron stars open their preseason camp this week in a position that is becoming quite familiar as the NAIA’s preseason top 25 poll was released Monday.

The Statesmen, who were 9-2 last fall (5-2 MWL), fell one rung from the summer ranking to #14 in the NAIA with 136 points.

Defending national champion Saint Xavier (Ill.) is the preseason #1 with 236 points and all 11 first-place votes, while Carroll (Mont.) is second. Marian (Ind.), Georgetown (Ky.), and MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) round out the top five. The top nine teams from the summer poll remain the same.

St. Francis (Ill.) tops the Midwest League at #7, while Grand View is 15th and St. Ambrose is 20th.

The Statesmen are now the third-highest team from the state of Iowa behind #8 Morningside and #10 Northwestern.

William Penn opens its 2012 season on Saturday, August 25 by traveling to Mount Pleasant to face Iowa Wesleyan in MWL action at 6 p.m.
