Burnett Collects All-America Honor #6

Marion, Ind.–Katie Burnett (Sr., Mesa, Ariz., Arizona) proved Thursday that she is not just an exceptional walker, but she can also throw an implement quite a distance as she claimed yet another All-America award at the 2011 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships.

Amidst continuous rain showers, the five-time All-American race walker made it six laurels as she tossed the javelin a length of 141-2 to place third in the event. In doing so, she broke her own school record, previously set at 136-6 two years ago, and extended her school record All-America tally.

She will seek her seventh career A-A award this afternoon by competing in the 5,000-meter race walk.

Gabriel Green (So., Anniston, Ala., Anniston HS) also found success in the less than optimal weather conditions. The sophomore completed a sweep of semifinal qualifications by running the 100-meter dash in 10.85 seconds (18th, final runner into the semifinal field) and finishing the 200-meter dash in 22.13 seconds (16th place).

He will compete in the 100 semis this afternoon, while the 200 semis will be contested Saturday.

His sprinting partner Carlos Stepter (Sr., Highland Park, Mich., Highland Park HS) was unfortunately not as lucky, placing just behind Green in the 100, taking 19th at 10.86 seconds, just .01 shy of a qualifying spot.

Rachel Butler (Sr., Orange County, Calif., Calvary Chapel Downey HS) was also in competition, and produced a pair of solid showings in the throws.

The senior finished 13th in the javelin at 125-8 and was 22nd in the hammer at 145-6.

Consistency Earns Paceley Postseason Recognition

Oskaloosa–Amanda Paceley (Jr., Higley, Ariz., South Mountain CC) recorded an impressive fall campaign, good enough to net her postseason laurels as the 2011 all-Midwest Collegiate Conference women’s golf teams were announced today.

Despite playing in just half the season, Paceley was named to the six-person honorable-mention squad. The league’s top five players, as voted on by the MCC’s coaches, garnered first-team recognition.

Jordan Davis of Ashford earned her second-straight MCC Player of the Year award, while her head coach Josh Davis also picked up his second-consecutive MCC Coach of the Year honor.

After a shaky start to her navy and gold career, Paceley came on strong and owned a 91.1 scoring average in nine rounds of competition.

The junior managed four top-ten finishes (six tournaments), including three rounds in the 80s. She placed as high as sixth at the Ashford Fall Classic with a season-low round of 83. Paceley was never lower than 16th in any tournament, and headlined her team’s scoring in five of six events.

Stobart Receives Honorable Mention

Oskaloosa–Sebastian Stobart (Jr., Harare, Zimbabwe, St. Georges College) produced another solid campaign and his efforts earned him another postseason mark as the 2011 all-Midwest Collegiate Conference men’s golf teams were announced today.

For the second year in a row, Stobart was named to the honorable-mention squad, this year consisting of eight players. The league’s top five players, as voted on by the MCC’s coaches, garnered first-team recognition.

Josh Manske of Grand View was named MCC Player of the Year, while Chris Winkel of Grand View was tabbed as MCC Coach of the Year for the second-consecutive season.

Stobart owned a 78.1 stroke average over 18 1/2 18-hole rounds of competition between last fall and this spring.

The junior, who had four top-ten finishes (nine tournaments), tallied nine rounds in the 70s. He placed as high as second at the Statesmen Fall Classic and had a season-low round of one-under 71 at the Statesmen Spring Classic.
