Musco to Celebrate 50 Years With Community Event in Downtown Oskaloosa

Musco is marking 50 years in Oskaloosa with a community event that will have live music, family activities, food trucks, an outdoor movie, and a special light show downtown.
The Musco 50th Anniversary Community Celebration is set for Saturday, September 19, from 5 to 10 p.m. on the Oskaloosa Square.
Musco welcomes its team members and their families, and community members to join the celebration. Food and drinks will be available to buy.
Live music will come from the Oskaloosa City Band, Gemma Brice, Nicholas Neibauer, and The Pork Tornadoes.
The Pork Tornadoes, an Iowa-based party band, are known for playing cover songs from many decades and styles. They say they have performed over 800 shows for more than 1.5 million people.
There will also be an outdoor showing of “Field of Dreams.” This movie has a special connection to Musco.
Musco provided lighting for the original “Field of Dreams” movie over 30 years ago. Later, the company supplied LED lighting for the temporary Major League Baseball stadium built near the movie site in Dyersville, where MLB games took place in 2021 and 2022.
The September 19 celebration will end with what Musco calls a unique light show in downtown Oskaloosa.
A Company With Oskaloosa Roots
Musco began in 1976, when Joe Crookham and Myron Gordin bought Muscatine Lighting and Manufacturing Company. The business grew to specialize in sports and large-area lighting.
Musco is still based in downtown Oskaloosa. Its lighting systems are found at community fields, schools, college and professional stadiums, speedways, transportation sites, and international sporting events.
The company said it had over 1,800 team members worldwide when it finished a 74,000-square-foot renovation and expansion of its downtown Oskaloosa campus in 2025.
The project added new office space, meeting rooms, and other facilities for employees. In July, Oskaloosa News reported that Musco was still investing locally by adding more testing, electronics, service, and product development facilities.
Musco’s work extends from Oskaloosa to some of the world’s biggest sporting events. In June, the company was named the official sport presentation and broadcast lighting provider for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Los Angeles.
The company has also helped with recreation projects in the local area. In 2020, Musco built and installed a lighted mini-pitch for soccer near the Oskaloosa Skate Park. This facility was made to give local children and families another place to play.
Musco’s 50th anniversary celebration is meant to honor the company’s history and its long connection with Oskaloosa.
