Rock Island, Ill.–It their final non-conference battles against programs from the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, the Lady Statesmen netters split at the Augustana Trick or Treat Tournament Saturday.

William Penn (19-21) opened the day with a 3-0 loss to Wartburg (16-25, 19-25, 17-25), but then responded with a 3-2 win over Dubuque (25-21, 20-25, 13-25, 25-23, 15-6). The navy and gold finished 3-5 in eight matchups against the NCAA Division III Iowa-based league.

With Lacey Taylor (Jr., Cedar, Iowa Western CC) out of the lineup, Christa Subbert (Sr., Stanton, Stanton HS) rose to the occasion by pacing her team in both contests.

Subbert matched Katie Rielly (Jr., Oskaloosa, Des Moines Area CC) with seven kills against Wartburg, while Brittany Rohling (Sr., Thayer, Kan., Neosho CC) added five. Subbert also dug a team-best 14 balls, while Rohling guided the net defense with five blocks (one solo, four assists). The Lady Statesmen scored 11 points on defense.

Dayna Sammons (Fr., Menomonee Falls, Wis., Menomonee Falls HS) assisted on 14 winners, while Katherine Stumberg (Sr., Williamsburg, Kirkwood CC) had 11 assists.

Subbert headlined the team’s .311 hitting performance against Dubuque with 15 kills. The senior also led William Penn with four aces and 20 digs.

Rielly, with 11 kills, and Rohling, with ten, hit double figures as well. Rohling again had the top defensive showing with four blocks (one solo, three assists).

Stumberg finished with 28 assists and Alanna Connors (So., Libertyville, Ill., Libertyville HS) notched 19 digs.

Next: William Penn concludes its regular season by traveling to Des Moines Tuesday to face #23 Grand View in Midwest Collegiate Conference action at 7:30 p.m.
