Whitehead, Miller Sweep Weekly Awards
Oskaloosa–Jennifer Whitehead (Jr., Oskaloosa, Biology) and Molly Miller (Sr., Kalona, Iowa, Business Management) were rewarded for big weeks in Arizona as they swept this week’s Midwest Collegiate Conference weekly softball awards.
Whitehead was named Pitcher of the Week for the first time this year (eighth in her career), while Miller collected her first career Player of the Week award. The pair helped #22 William Penn (12-6) to an 8-3 week in Tucson (9-4 overall).
Whitehead was 5-0 with a 1.42 Earned Run Average in 39 1/3 innings. The junior struck out 36 batters versus five walks. She struck out 12 in a one-hitter against Trinity International (Ill.) and did not allow an earned run in three of six outings.
For the year, Whitehead is 6-3 with a 1.41 ERA in 64 1/3 frames of work. She has posted 75 strikeouts with 15 walks and opponents are hitting only .183 against her. The junior has thrown nine complete games with three shutouts.
Miller had a great week at the plate, posting a .450 batting average (18-for-40) with 13 RBIs and eight runs scored. She had seven multi-hit games, highlighted by two three-hit showings. Miller posted at least two RBIs four times (high of three), while she scored twice on three separate occasions.
For the year, Miller has a .469 average (30-for-64) with four doubles, one triples, 15 RBIs, and 12 run scored.
The awards are the first and second for William Penn this season.
