What’s Happening At The Library – January 15-18, 2018

January 15th – The Library is closed for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

January 16th at 4:00 p.m. (for Kindergarten – 2nd Grade) Experience the joy of Sensory Painting. Children will be painting with cotton puffs, q-tips, ribbons and more.

January 16th at 5:00 p.m. (for 6th -12th Grade) Oskaloosa Police Office Gary Kutcher will be giving a program on Personal Safety for Teens. The program is being held in the 1st floor Story Time room.

January 16th at 6:30 p.m. (for everyone – open to the Public) The Friends of the Library will be hosting Humanities Iowa Speaker, Dan Kaercher. Dan is the retired editor and founder of Midwest Living Magazine. Dan has visited almost all of Iowa’s 99 counties in search of close-to-home attractions and getaways. Dan’s program is entitled to “Iowa’s Hidden Treasures”. You will be amazed at the surprises that await right in your own backyard – IOWA! The program is being held in room A/B on the Library’s 3rd floor.

January 17th at Noon (for Adults – ages 18+) The Brown Bag Book Club will be meeting to discuss this month’s book selection of Stones from the River by Ursula Hegi. The book is about “Trudi Montag, a dwarf. She is short, undesirable, different, the voice of anyone who has ever tried to fit in. Eventually she learns that being different is a secret that all humans share—from her mother who flees into madness, to her friend Georg whose parents pretend he’s a girl, to the Jews Trudy harbors in her cellar.” (Summary taken from GoodReads.com) The program is being held in room C on the Library’s 3rd floor.

January 17th at 3:00 p.m. (for Kindergarten -5th Grade) Looking for something to do on that early out day? Come to the library and watch Disney’s Frozen! The movie is rated PG and is one hour and 45 minutes in length. (All movies shown are covered under the Library’s movie license.) The program is being held in room A/B on the Library’s 3rd Floor.

January 18th at 4:00 p.m. (for 3rd-5th Grade) Come explore facts about Martin Luther King, Jr., learn about his life, his activism and his fight for civil rights. The program is being held in the 1st floor Story Time room.
