WARRIORS RUN AWAY WITH BLUE RIVER CLASSIC TITLE

Lincoln, NE – The No. 3 nationally ranked Indian Hills Men’s Golf squad cruised to a first-place finish in its season opener at the Blue River Classic on Thursday. The Warriors outlasted the field by 14 strokes to win its first tournament of the season.
Indian Hills handled the 16-team field by firing a 36-under, running past multiple NCAA and National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) programs. The Warriors fired round scores of 276-278-274-828 (-36) to win its first tournament of the season.
Behind the all-around dominant team performance, the Warriors were led by freshman Evan Monaghan (Killina, Ireland/Killina Presentation) who took the top overall honor with a 15-under, 201 to win his first collegiate tournament by a stroke.
Freshman Darcy Mackay (Luddenham, Australia/Australian Christian College) placed fourth overall with a 10-under, 206 to score for the Warriors. Competing as an individual, freshman Joaquin Sandoval (Santiago, Chile/Carino Saint Christian) tied for fifth overall with a 7-under, 209.
Collectively, the Warriors placed six individuals in the top-20 of the final standings. George Shakespeare (Eastbourne, England/Eastbourne College) tied with Sandoval for fifth overall with a 7-under while Mathias Ostegaard (Skanderborg, Denmark/Ikast-Brande Handelsgymnasium) tied for 11th overall with a 4-under, 212. Freshman Ronnie Gibb (Croxley Green, England/Croxley Danes) added a 19th place finish with an even-par round for the Warriors.
Monaghan proved to be stellar for the Warriors, leading the 88-player field with 19 birdies, three more than any individual in the tournament. Shakespeare tallied a pair of eagles, one on the No. 11 Par 5 in the first round and one on the No. 1 Par 5 to push for the top-five finish.
The Warriors will resume play September 14-15 with the Grover Page Classic at the Jackson Country Club in Jackson, TN.
