Wanda Lee Murray

Oskaloosa. Wanda Lee Murray, 85, of Phoenix, Arizona, and formerly of Oskaloosa, died October 29, 2010. She was born on October 2, 1925, in Shelbina, Missouri, the daughter of Arthur E. and Susan Lee Sherry. She graduated from Shelbina High School with the class of 1943. On May 1, 1943, Wanda was united in marriage to Ernest E. Purdy and he died on October 11, 1960. She was then married to William B. Murray at Lancaster, Missouri on November 23, 1962, and he died December 31, 1984. Following graduation she went to work as a waitress until her retirement in 1985. She spent her retirement years enjoying her family. Wanda was an avid sports fan and loved rooting for her Iowa Hawkeyes and Iowa State Cyclones. She was an active lifetime member of the VFW Ladies’ Auxiliary and the Eagles Ladies’ Auxiliary. For the last two and one half years she lived with her family in Phoenix, Arizona.

Her family includes her 3 daughters: Sharon (& Ronnie “Whitey”) Braden, Charlotte (& Bob) Foster and Tina (& Gary) Housley all of Phoenix, Arizona; 2 sons: Gary (& Beth) Purdy of What Cheer and Jerry (& Cindy) Purdy of Collierville, Tennessee; 15 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren and a sister: Elizabeth Foerder of Powderly, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her husbands; a son: Darrell Dwayne Purdy; 4 sisters: Margaret Kendrick, Miriam Pruden, Mary Bailey and Susan Alice Sherry; and 2 brothers: Richard and James Arthur Sherry.

Funeral services will be held Friday, November 5, 2010 at 1 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Reverend Robert Dean officiating. Burial will be in Friends Cemetery in Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation with the family present will be in the Bates Funeral Chapel on Friday from 11 a.m. until service time.
