Walking Together To Fight Breast Cancer
190 people signed up to participate in Fridays Breast Cancer Awareness Walk.
Oskaloosa, Iowa – The rain may have changed the location for MHP’s Breast Cancer Awareness Walk on Friday, but the walkers never missed a stride.
In its 9th year, over 190 walkers signed up to participate.
Cassie Riley, PR/Marketing Coordinator for Mahaska Health Partnership, explained that the proceeds from the walk are donated to the SE Iowa affiliate of Susan G. Komen. “The reason we do it to that particular branch of that organization is because we receive grant funds from them on an annual basis to fund mammograms for women who can’t afford it.”
Riley said that contacting Radiology at Mahaska Health Partnership, filling out the one page application form, “that doesn’t really delve into a lot of detail, so please don’t be apprehensive because of the application. It’s very simple.” You can even find the application on MHP’s website to fill it out ahead of time.
Donations will be collected throughout the month. Those donations will come from local businesses who hold “jeans days”. Employees will donate five dollars to wear jeans to work one day.
“We just really appreciate everyone’s support to be able to raise awareness and to gain attention for this important cause that affects so many people.”
MHP will also be hosting their 4th annual free Women’s Breast Health Night at the Gateway Church of the Nazarene on October 22nd. It will go from 6:30pm to 8pm. “Great opportunity to get together with your girlfriends in a casual environment.”
Besides the amazing food, there are booths from local health professionals and product vendors that have information or products that help people who could be impacted by breast cancer.
