Von Leroy Shadduck, 77, of Oskaloosa, died Monday, June 15, 2020, at the MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. He was born September 7, 1942, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the son of Robert W. and Sarah Elizabeth Allsup Shadduck.

Leroy graduated from Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1960.

Following high school Leroy worked various places including, Checkerboard Café, Canary Cottage, Sears in Ottumwa, Pamco, and Stonehenge Supper Club.

He was united in marriage to Marsha Sparks. To this union a son Christopher was born. Marsha and Leroy later divorced.

Leroy later took a job at Iowa Power and Light as a dispatcher. It was while working here that he first met his future father in law, Don Appelgate. He went on to work a short time for the Chicago NW Railroad as a road master clerk. In 1971, he took a job at Clow Valve in Oskaloosa. He retired from his post as a scheduler on January 2, 2007, after 36 years of service.

On May 22, 1976, Leroy was united in marriage to Diana Appelgate at the First Christian Church in Oskaloosa. Leroy welcomed her two sons Christopher and Michael into his life.

Leroy was a member of the First Christian Church in Oskaloosa, SAL (Sons of the American Legion) Post 34, where he had served as Department Chaplain, V.F.W. Auxilliary, Oskaloosa Community Theater, and the Oskaloosa Band Boosters.

He enjoyed dancing, trips to the casinos, and scratch off tickets. He enjoyed making his house a home, he had a great talent for being able to visualize how to tastefully decorate a room. Along with his talent for decorating came a love of collecting paintings and sculptures. He enjoyed the company of his pet bulldog Ellie May. He delighted in spending time with his family and always looked forward to trips to see relatives that lived far away.

His family includes his wife of over 44 years, Diana Shadduck of Oskaloosa; three sons: Christopher Michael (& Rachelle) Shadduck of Ottumwa, Christopher Todd (& LaVette) Parks of McMinnville, Oregon, and Michael Wade (& Tracy) Parks of Kerrville, Texas; thirteen grandchildren: Rhen Shadduck, Von Shadduck, Brooke Wurr, Brandon Parks, Ryan Parks, Kaelyn Parks, Mason Parks, Dylan Collins, Jacob Collins, Antonio Robledo, Nikko Robledo, Anastasia Robinson, and DeLisa Van Dyke; five great grandchildren: Kason Newbury, Justice Robinson, Mace McMurray, Elizabeth Van Dyke, Aylora Van Dyke; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Eileen Shadduck; three sisters: Cheryl Hodge, Beverly DeVries, and Nova Byrd; two brothers, Frank Byrd and Clinton Byrd.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 19, 2020, at 10:00 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Reverend Molly Goodrich officiating.
As was Leroy’s wish, his body will be cremated following the funeral ceremony.
Burial of the urn will be in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
According to the rules put in place by the Iowa Department of Public Health, proper social distancing and reasonable personal protective equipment is advised for attending a religious public event.
The funeral service will be live streamed at the funeral home’s YouTube Channel for those wishing to support the family from a distance.
Visitation will begin Thursday, June 18, 2020, after 11 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa. The family will be at the funeral chapel from 5-7 Thursday evening to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to the MHP Hospice Serenity House.
