Visitors Nip Iowa Wesleyan in Four

William Penn Women's Athletics

Mount Pleasant–Christa Subbert (Sr., Stanton, Stanton HS) posted a big double-double of kills and digs to guide the Lady Statesmen volleyball team to a 3-1 win against Iowa Wesleyan Tuesday.

William Penn (18-19, 3-5 MCC) won by scores of 25-20, 25-27, 25-14, 25-14.

Subbert had a monster showing with a match-high and personal season-high 20 kills and a .415 attack percentage. The navy and gold outhit the Tigers .243-.151.

Three others also surpassed the double-digit mark, including Lacey Taylor (Jr., Cedar, Iowa Western CC) with 14 winners. Brittany Rohling (Sr., Thayer, Kan., Neosho CC) added 13 kills and Katie Rielly (Jr., Oskaloosa, Des Moines Area CC) managed 12 on the night.

Katherine Stumberg (Sr., Williamsburg, Kirkwood CC) assisted 30 times, while Dayna Sammons (Fr., Menomonee Falls, Wis., Menomonee Falls HS) helped on 24 occasions. Stumberg and Katy Hingtgen (Sr., West Des Moines, Dowling Catholic HS) served three aces against Iowa Wesleyan (6-19, 2-6 MCC) as well.

Subbert was also impressive on the defensive end by leading all participants with 28 digs, while Rohling blocked four balls (all assists).

“After a slow start, we began to execute and picked apart their defense,” Lady Statesmen Head Coach Jeremy Wise said. “We were still down two key players in Alanna Connors and Jeanette Cunningham, but their replacements did their job to help us out with a nice league win.”
