Vietnam Veterans were welcomed home with a meal and ceremony at the American Legion on Wednesday.

Oskaloosa, Iowa – It’s common these days to see praise and a thank you to those who have served our country in the military.

There was a time in our nation’s history, when those who were serving overseas, in particular Vietnam, were not welcomed home as heroes.

Nationwide on Wednesday night, people came together to help welcome home those Vietnam Vets who were overlooked and many times shamed because of their service.

At the Oskaloosa American Legion, community members and Vietnam Vets joined together for a meal and small ceremony to recognize the sacrifices made by those vets.

The American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary, Sons of American Legion and Legion riders sponsored the event that featured pulled pork sandwiches and many other food options.

American Legion Post #34 Commander Darrin Alderson said that the evening went well because of the hard work by many.
