Leighton, Iowa – A Facebook post by Mahaska County Supervisor Mark Doland and an email from Mahaska County Republican Party Chairman Rob Noah caused some pause for local media outlets.

In the email, to committee members from Noah, it said:

“You are invited to a Victory Celebration for Mark Doland. The Victory Party will be held at the Leighton Community Center tonight, Thursday, March 7th at 6:30 p.m. Those who helped on the campaign will be honored. This will be a private, supporter event. Constituents will convene a meeting after the victory party to discuss the Regional Airport. Media access will not be allowed.”

Noah explained that the email was not official correspondence from the local party, but was done at the request of Mark Doland.

Noah said his wife helped out by copying Doland’s post on the Mahaska County Republican Facebook page, and also used that information by copying and pasting it into an email format for those that don’t use the social media service.

Noah clarified by saying that it was not his stance or that of the local Republican party to keep the media from the meeting.

Mahaska County Supervisor Mark Doland was celebrating his victory with supporters at the Community Center in Leighton.

Doland gave permission for the media to be a part of the victory celebration, but said that the meeting was going to have no media at the request of local landowners, who held the meeting in regards to the regional airport. According to Doland, he would be a part of the meeting to listen to what the local landowners had learned at a recent DOT meeting, and to help share information he may have about the project.

The meeting was brought to order and Doland took the floor. He thanked his supporters for their work and reminded everyone that every vote does count.

Once he finished his speech, those in attendance waited for the media to exit. Those media members representing KBOE, CRI and Oskaloosa News left as requested.

This post from Mark Doland appeared on the Mahaska County Republican's Facebook page Wednesday, March 6th informing the Republican community about the victory party and meeting.
