Verner Hartmann, 86 of New Sharon and formerly of Ottumwa entered into Heaven on Monday morning, December 31, 2018 at the Northern Mahaska Specialty Care in Oskaloosa. Verner Hartmann, the son of Carl and Katherine (Sorenson) Hartmann, was born on September 26, 1932 in Irene, South Dakota. He was the seventh of 12 children to this union.

Verner graduated from Washington High School in Sioux Falls, South Dakota in 1950 and served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.

After serving his country, Verner worked at Boeing Air Craft in Seattle, Washington and later moved to Ottumwa, IA and worked for John Deere for 30 years.

Verner met Cleora Kerr and they were married in April 14, 2007.

In May 2015, Verner was honored to be able to go on the Eastern Honor Flight to Washington D.C.

Verner enjoyed woodworking – making beautiful cabinets and furniture, camping, hunting and spoiling his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also loved his dogs: Holly and Spicy, who passed before him. Verner was a member and served as a Deacon at the Community of Christ Church in Oskaloosa. Verner and Cleora also attended Harvest Community Fellowship in New Sharon.

He is survived by his loving wife, Cleora of New Sharon; five daughters: Karen (& John) Terhark, Worthington, MN, Rebecca (& Ben) McKenzie of Parkton, NC, Theresa Newkirk of Mildford, IA, Heidi (& Greg) Lusk of Tacoma, WA and Lorie Farquhar of Sheldon, IA; two sons, Troy Hartmann and Dale Hartmann of Seattle, WA; two sisters, Linda Johnson of Sioux Falls, SD and Mary Fuller of Fulda, MN; one brother, Dennis Hartmann of Yankton, SD; three step children: Marilyn (& Dale) Williams of Baxter, IA, Roger (& Kathy) Elscott of New Sharon and Maxine Van Wyk of New Sharon; ten grandchildren; five great grandchildren; 12 step grandchildren; 33 step great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Verner was preceded in death by his parents; eight siblings: Alice, Anna, Ethel, Arlene, Louise, Karen, Hans and Bert; and two step great grandchildren.

Funeral services will begin at 11:00 am Friday, January 4, 2019 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in New Sharon.
Visitation will begin after 12:00 pm Thursday, January 3, 2019 at the Holland-Coble Funeral home with the family present from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Northern Mahaska Specialty Care Activities Fund or the Harvest Community Fellowship.
