Tim Hunolt, 62, of Oskaloosa, died Saturday, February 16, 2019, at his home in Oskaloosa under the care of Mahaska Hospice. He was born October 8, 1956, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the son of John and Dorothy Sanders Hunolt.

Tim grew up in Oskaloosa and attended the Catholic grade school and later the Oskaloosa High School, graduating with the Class of 1975.

In April of 1993 he met the love of his life Gayla Smith.

Tim worked all around Iowa as a licensed journeyman plumber. He played lead guitar and vocal for 30 years in 7 different bands and played shows all over Iowa, in Missouri, and Omaha Nebraska.

Tim was a member of the Des Moines local 33 Plumbers and Steamfitters Union. He served on the Opera House Board for a couple years in What Cheer, Iowa. He taught 4-H and was an advocate for teaching children gun and shooting safety. He participated as an individual at the Iowa Games in the shooting competition.

Tim enjoyed reading his Bible every day. He loved living in the country, spending time in his back yard with family and friends playing music or sitting around a campfire. He enjoyed organizing fundraising events such as playing gigs with his band, clay pigeon shooting or other shooting events. Tim’s real joy in life was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and friends.

His family includes the love of his life, Gayla Smith Hunolt of Oskaloosa; his children: Jeremy Hunolt of Oskaloosa, Justin Hunolt of Oskaloosa, Mandi Smith of Oskaloosa, and Calvin (& Jessica) Smith of Eddyville; his grandchildren: Landon Hunolt, Devan Smith, Georgia Smith, Paisley Smith and Cali Smith; three brothers: Mick Hunolt of Oskaloosa, Larry Hunolt of Oskaloosa and Tom (& Seta) Hunolt of Richland; five sisters: Ruth (& Steve) Baker of Birmingham, Sue Maddox of Omaha, Nebraska; Deb (& Randy) Hunt of Fairfield, Mary (& Max) Hunt of Grinnell and Kate (& Vincent Haydon) Wolvers of Newton; and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Tim is also survived by his life-long friend, Mark Herny and his son Luke who he called his nephew.

Tim was preceded in death by his parents; and a very special nephew, Josh Hunolt.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, February 21, 2019 at 1:00 PM in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Pastor Mark Doland officiating.
Burial will be in the Jackson Cemetery near Rose Hill. Arrangements are by the Bates Funeral Chapel.
Visitation will begin Wednesday, February 20, 2019, after 11:00 AM in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be present at the funeral chapel from 5:00 – 7:00 PM Wednesday evening to greet friends and relatives.
