Three in Top 25 Help Statesmen to Bracket Tourney

Addison, Ill.–The William Penn women’s bowling team had a strong showing in open play, but could not upset the best squad in the field at the Ebonite Warhawk Open Saturday and Sunday.

WPU was eighth out of 24 teams with 8,161 pins in six regular games and four Baker sets. Robert Morris (Ill.) topped qualifying with 8,836 pins. RMU slipped past the Statesmen in the quarterfinals of bracket play en route to sweeping the titles.

Candice Goldfinch of Midland was the top qualifier with a 217.5 average.

Bailey Palmer (So., Ottumwa, Iowa, Undecided) was one of three Statesmen rollers in the top 25, finishing 12th with a 195.2 average.

Audra Farley (Sr., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Education) posted a 191.3 clip to take 16th, while Nicole Craft (So., Wakefield, Neb., Physical Education) ended up 25th at 187.5.

Amber Ovel (Jr., Waterloo, Iowa, Business Management) had a 178.2 mark in five games, while Kaylee Gerken (Jr., Dubuque, Iowa, Elementary Education) averaged 172.3 pins in three games. Kayla Gifford (So., Camanche, Iowa, Biology), who also started three rounds, managed a 170.7 average, while Abbey Fangman (Fr., Waterloo, Iowa, Elementary Education) knocked down 123 pins in her lone start.

Next Up: William Penn travels to Las Vegas, Nev. on December 18-19 to compete in the Glenn Carlson Las Vegas Invitational.
