Thomas, Huff Win Statesmen of the Week Laurels

Oskaloosa–Baseball player Brian Thomas (So., Shingle Springs, Calif.) and softball player Chelsey Huff (Fr., Douds, Iowa, Exercise Science) have been named the Statesmen of the Week for the week of April 18-24, presented by Gardner-Collier Jewelry.

Thomas had his best performance of the season, tossing six innings in a win over Graceland last Saturday. The sophomore retired the first nine batters he faced and did not allow a hit through five innings. He permitted just one run on one hit and walked only one hitter, while striking out eight Yellowjackets.

Huff was also excellent in the circle, permitting just one run in 12 innings of work. In last Monday’s win over Culver-Stockton, the freshman scattered nine hits in six frames of one-run ball. She struck out seven without a walk.

The right-handed hurler then entered in relief against Culver-Stockton last Sunday and tossed six scoreless innings. Huff allowed three hits, while striking out three with one walk. She gave up only one extra-base hit during the week and owned an impressive 0.58 Earned Run Average.
