1984: A blizzard struck Iowa on February 4-5 as a band of heavy snow along an advancing cold front dropped an inch of snow in less than half an hour followed by another 2 to 3 inches soon after, then winds behind the front increased to 30 to 45 mph with gusts in excess of 60 mph. The high winds combined with temperatures below zero to produce dangerously cold wind chills as low as -70 F and blew and drifted the new snow making travel very difficult. There were 22 deaths attributed to the storm in Iowa.
