The Taste Of Summer Giving Way To Fall Flavors

Shoppers enjoy browsing the fresh produce at the Oskaloosa Farmers Market this past week.

Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Oskaloosa Farmers Market continued to offer area shoppers farm-fresh options this week.

Sweet Corn has maybe a week or two of availability left.

Doug Rodwell has been participating at the farmers market for several years. He says that tomatoes and sweet corn seem to be on the top of everyone’s list when they arrive at the market. Other farmers market favorites include green beans, melons, cucumbers, and zucchini.

Rodwell says that as the summer foods fade away for another year, squash, sweet potatoes, and pumpkins will become more available.

“It’s been a good season,” says Rodwell, even considering the cool, wet start to the year, which made almost all produce later than normal.

As far the new location in front of Penn Central Mall along A Avenue, Rodwell says. He believes the parking is easier, and customers seem to be finding the market ok after the move from the downtown square.
