The Oskaloosa City Band To Perform July 28 On The Square
Oskaloosa, Iowa –
The Oskaloosa City Band invites the community to their weekly concert on Thursday night at 8 p.m. at the bandstand on the Oskaloosa square. Due to last week’s thundershower, the band was only able to perform 3 tunes. The band will play some of the songs from last week’s line-up, along with a few more. The concert will open and close with Karl King’s “Fidelity” and “Free World” marches.
No concert is complete without some locally published Barnhouse tunes. The band will play “Bridgeview Overture for Band” and “Smokey Mountain Rhapsody” by Ed Huckeby, along with “Fantasy on an American Marching Tune” by Robert Sheldon.
“Theme From A Summer Place” from the 1959 movie release will appeal to the seasoned listeners, while “Raiders March” from “Raiders of the Lost Ark” and “Accidentally In Love” from “Shrek 2” will appeal to the younger crowd. The arrangement of “Theme From A Summer Place” was specially commissioned for the Oskaloosa band and was arranged by Eric Songer.
William Penn’s Director of Instrumental Music, Scott Cressley, will be the featured soloist this week. He will perform “Someone To Watch Over Me” by Gershwin and “St. Thomas” by Sonny Rollins on his alto saxophone. In the event of inclement weather, the band invites you to join them at Smokey Row Coffee House on the west side of the square for an inside concert.
