The Heat Plays a Role in Art on the Square

Oskaloosa, Iowa – The punishing heat played a role in turnout for the annual Art on the Square held in downtown Oskaloosa on Saturday.

With heat indexes expected to soar over 100 degrees, vendors started to cancel, but for organizers, the heat didn’t melt their enthusiasm for the decades long tradition.

The crowd numbers were down slightly as well, as many people found activities indoors.

Lynn is no stranger to the yearly art fest. “Hopefully this is an unusual year,” she said of the lower vendor number that did feature some new artists, as well as many old favorites. “We have a good variety, there really is.”

Sue Lynn is one of the many volunteers that have stepped up this year to help out while Oskaloosa Main Street searches for a new director.

The Art on the Square show ended a week celebrating the arts in Oskaloosa. The new sculpture tour, the Up and Coming Artist Show were among the many activities celebrating the arts in Oskaloosa.
