This Saturday at the old Heartland mall, at 1701 3rd Ave East at the North end of the mall, will be Team KELSEY Foundation Night hosted by Kelderman Raceway.

The race was brought about by Josh Fenton from Des Moines. One of his good friends created the Team Kelsey Foundation after his daughter passed away due to cancer, to help others deal with childhood cancer. There motto is Partnering with those who have been touched by childhood cancer because…”individually we are one drop but together we are an ocean.”

Kelderman Raceway is a clay RC racing track. Fenton is busy during the summer going to different tracks and racing and didn’t have time to go to fundraisers, so he took what he loved doing and is helping spread information about Team Kelsey. The track does a 50/50 raffle with ½ the money going to the foundation, also Fenton donates .10 cents for every lap he runs.

Saturday started out as normal race night, with the Sprint cars having a 100 lap feature. Then other racers stepped in, as several are sponsored by companies, that are involved in the R/C racing business and door prizes, raffle items have been coming in along with some from local business.

Racers are expected from all over Iowa, plus even out-of-state, to help support this event. Although the 100 lap Sprint Car race is the main event there will be other races for all ages and classes.

Due to the expected crowd the door will open at an earlier time of 1pm and races starting at 3pm. To watch is free, there is food and drink on property. If you wish to stay and watch for awhile it is suggested you bring your own chair.

There will be a cash payout for the top 3 of the Sprint Car class with several drivers already stating to donate their winning to the foundation.
