Susan Long, 63, of Gainesville, Georgia and formerly of Oskaloosa, died Monday, December 26, 2016, at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville. She was born Friday, April 3, 1953, in Oskaloosa, the daughter of Melvin and Leona Valster Beyer.

Susan graduated from the Oskaloosa High School.

Susan worked for a time at Mahaska Drug in Oskaloosa and later worked at Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska and lastly at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.

She is survived by her son, Chris Long of Oskaloosa; a daughter, Kim (& Scott) Van Meter of Gainesville; a grandchild, Takiya Siegfried; a great grandchild, Xavier Siegfried; and a brother, Kenneth Beyer of Oskaloosa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Keith Beyer; and a sister, Betty Dorland.

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 30, 2016, at 10 A.M. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Carl Drost officiating.
As was her wish, her body will be cremated following the service and her cremated remains will be buried in Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa at a later date.
Visitation will begin Thursday, December 29, 2016, after 1 P.M. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be present at the funeral chapel Thursday from 5 – 7 P.M. to greet friends and relatives.
