Susan Christine Johnson, age 68, of Osceola and formerly of Albia, passed away on Thursday, September 13, 2018, at the Clarke County Hospital in Osceola, Iowa. She was born on November 26, 1949, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, to Delbert and Marcella (O’Brien) Johnson.

Susan attended grade school in Hiteman, and graduated from the Albia Community High School with the Class of 1968. After graduating from high school, Susan worked at Maytag in Newton, IA, and attended Northeast Missouri State University for a time. She had 2 infant sons who were adopted.

Susan was a very loving, caring person who always wanted to help someone in need. She enjoyed going for walks, watching television, old movies, and reading Agatha Christie mysteries.

Susan is survived by her 4 sisters: Julie (& Jim) Maddox of Dubuque, Mary Savage of Davenport, Linda Johnson of Albia, and Patricia Peterson of Spencer; 1 brother, James (& Jolene) Johnson of Fairfield; 3 nieces: Angie Johnson of Des Moines, Jessica Petersen of Spencer, and Taylor Conway of Altoona; 1 nephew, Josh Petersen of Altoona; and a great nephew, Brayson Arndt of Spencer.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Delbert and Marcella; maternal grandparents, Lawrence and Nellie (Graham) O’Brien; paternal grandparents, Joe and Nellie (Bottomley) Johnson; and her great grandparents, Samuel and Christina Johnson.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 17, 2018, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia with Susan’s family present to greet family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 17, 2018, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Fr. Michael E. Volkmer C.PP.S. officiating.
Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Albia.
An open memorial has been established to the family.
