Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Mahaska County Board of Supervisors met in regular session on Monday, December 3rd, 2018.

The Supervisors approved an agreement over the Buck Grove Trust properties, abating the taxes on the properties.

The land used to belong to an oil company, and has been found to have hazardous waste, and the City of Oskaloosa has been working on a mitigation plan in order to put the property back onto the tax roll.

The county also approved a City of Oskaloosa request for an easement to cross county property on North Park for sewer work.

Approved Homestead, Military, Ag Land, and family farm credits for the fiscal year 2020, as recommended by the Mahaska County Assessor.

The Mahaska County Supervisors approved an agreement with Monroe County to share a county engineer.

The county has been without an engineer since the resignation of Dave Shanahan, whose last day with the county was November 3rd.

Mahaska County Supervisor Henry ‘Willie’ Van Weelden said the agreement would be in anticipation that at least one day a week the engineer would be in Mahaska County but would be available for projects.

“We need a licensed engineer to proceed with road projects and this will cover us on that,” added Van Weelden.

The agreement was passed unanimously by the board.

Approved the Northwest Urban Renewal project with Co-Line Welding. The rebate to Co-Line for property taxes was in the amount of $54,197.00 in June of 2020.

The Supervisors also discussed the problem of a depleting account for the employee health plan. “Our funding is getting lower. We’ve had a claims year that has maybe been a little higher. There are various reasons,” added Van Weelden.

The Supervisors also approved a list of medical examiners for the county.

The next scheduled meeting for the Mahaska County Board of Supervisors is Monday, December 17, 2018, in the 3rd-floor conference room of the Mahaska County Courthouse.
