Minneapolis, Minn.–Many of the talented wrestlers that William Penn sent to the mat Saturday had their hands raised at least once in a solid showing at the Augsburg Brute-Auggie Open.

In an event that featured 22 brackets, including two different brackets for eight weight classes and three for 141 and 157, four Statesmen finished in the top six and several others appeared in the consolation finals.

Gold Division

Joao Vicente (So., East Providence, R.I., Secondary Education) was 2-1 to place third at 133 pounds with a 2-1 record. He managed a technical fall and lost to the eventual champion.

165-pounder Ishmael Rempson (Jr., Olympia Heights, Ill., Industrial Technology) managed one championship bracket win to place fourth, while heavyweight Nathan Veverka (Sr., Montezuma, Iowa, Industrial Technology) went 2-1 (one fall) en route to topping the consolation bracket.

133-pounder Scottie Bonds (Fr., Chicago, Ill., Physical Education) and 184-pounder Nick Wise (So., Phoenix, Ariz., Biology) each won once Saturday.

Silver Division

Christian Padilla (Jr., Tampa, Fla., Secondary Education) topped the list in the Silver Division, going 2-2 for fourth place at 157 pounds (one fall, one major decision).

The other four individuals who won matches in Silver competition reached the consolation finals. Brad Watson (So., Rolla, Mo., Physical Education) was the lone conso champ with a 4-1 mark at 149 pounds (two falls, one major decision).

125-pounder Andrew Gorman (Fr., Madison Heights, Mich., Business Management), 133-pounder Trey Busick (Fr., Pleasantville, Iowa, Industrial Technology), and 157-pounder Charlton Benjamin (Jr., Atlanta, Ga., Sociology) all lost in the consolation championship to finish 2-2 on the day. Gorman won once by technical fall and Busick had one victory by major decision.

Bronze Division

141-pounder Logan Loftus (Fr., Marengo, Iowa, Industrial Technology) had the highest finish of any WPU grappler, placing second with a 3-1 record. He pinned his first three opponents, all in the first period, before losing 10-6 to Austin Schoen of Wisconsin-La Crosse 10-6 in the final.

Joshua Wooten (Fr., Belleville, Mich., Physical Education) pinned one foe at 157 pounds as well.

Next: William Penn takes a week off before traveling to Kirksville, Mo. next Thursday to face NCAA Division II Truman in a dual meet at 7:30 p.m.
