Steve Shrago

Oskaloosa. Steve Shrago, 57, of Cape Coral, Florida and Oskaloosa, died Monday, April 25, 2011, at Shands Hospital at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. He was born January 24, 1954, at Oskaloosa, Iowa, the son of Donald J. and Harriett Astrahan Shrago. He graduated from the Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1972. He furthered his education at the University of Oklahoma and later at the University of Iowa. Following college he returned to Oskaloosa and joined his father in the family business, M. Shrago and Son, in 1975. On June 12, 1976, he was united in marriage to Nina Wood at Marshalltown. He continued working with his dad until his father’s death in 1984. Steve took over the daily operation of the business and was currently running the operation. He was a member of the Temple B’Nai Jeshrun in Des Moines, KAABA Shrine, Elks, American Legion. He served on the Oskaloosa School Board from 1984-1988. Family was the center of Steve’s life, Nina, his children and his grandson. He enjoyed boating, riding motorcycles and was always up for a good time.

He is survived by his wife, Nina Shrago of Oskaloosa and Cape Coral, Florida; two children: Shera Shrago and her husband Nathan Westercamp of Atlanta, Georgia, and Jordan Shrago of Tallahassee, Florida; a grandson: Gabriel Westercamp of Atlanta, Georgia; two sisters: Ellen Shrago of Carpentersville, Illinois, and Adrienne (& Morris) Johnson of Nebraska; a sister in law: Marsha (& Roger) Lynch of Oskaloosa; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter: Arianne Dawn Shrago in 1988; and his parents in law: Harold and Lenora Wood.

Funeral services will be held Friday, April 29, 2011, at 11 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Rabbi David Kaufman officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery at Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will begin Thursday after 2 in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel Thursday evening from 5 –8 to greet friends and relatives.
