Steve Rexroth, 68, of Ottumwa and formerly of Kirkville, died Saturday, August 29, 2020, at the Good Samaritan Society in Ottumwa. He was born May 23, 1952, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the son of Clifford and Lena Stout Rexroth.
Steve graduated from Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1970.
Following graduation Steve worked as a farm hand for Rex Wright and Irvin Harvey. He later took a job with Farm Service in Oskaloosa. Last he worked at CPS (now Nutrien Ag Solutions) in Oskaloosa, until ill health forced his retirement.
As his health continued to decline, Steve needed help caring for himself. He moved into the Good Samaritan Society Care Facility in Ottumwa. He found peace in that facility as he enjoyed the company of the staff and residents.
Steve was a member of Gateway Church of the Nazarene and enjoyed attending the New Sharon Assembly of God Church. He enjoyed fishing out of his bass boat, hunting, and being on the farm.
His family includes his son, Doug Rexroth of Oskaloosa; a grandson, D.C. Rexroth; and a brother, Ivan (& Lesa) Rexroth of Young Harris, Georgia.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Ruby Else.
Graveside funeral services and burial will be held Tuesday, September 8, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. in the University Park Cemetery with Reverend Darren Melton officiating. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
According to the rules put in place by the Iowa Department of Public Health, proper social distancing and reasonable personal protective equipment is advised for attending a religious public event.
The graveside service will be live streamed at the funeral home’s YouTube Channel for those wishing to support the family from a distance.
Visitation will open at 10:00 am on Tuesday morning.
A procession will form at 12:15 pm for those wishing to go to the ceremony.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Steve Rexroth Memorial Fund.
