Steven Minner, 63 of Montezuma passed away Tuesday morning, October 2, 2018 at the Grinnell Health Care Center in Grinnell. Steven Craig Minner, the son of Larry Minner and Donna (Mann) Heck, was born on June 13, 1955 in Oskaloosa, Iowa.

Steve graduated from Newton High School in 1973. He attended DMACC Community College in Ankeny, earning a certification in HVAC.

Steve was a licensed electrician and was a local contractor providing electrical, plumbing and carpentry work.

Steve was married to Jackie Palmer on May 21, 1997 in Brooklyn, Iowa.

In later years he worked with John Ahrens at Lake Ponderosa and worked for Dan Owens at The Deck Cleaners. He also farmed with his father for 30 plus years near Montezuma.

Steve was an avid hunter his whole life starting with his first gun given to him by his dad in grade school. When he got home from school he went to the cornfield behind their house and came back with two pheasants. Every November, Steve hunted opening day Pheasant season with his close friends and his brother, Dave. He also enjoyed fishing at his dad’s farm pond and spending time with his friends at the County Seat in Montezuma. Steve was a member of Moose Lodge in Newton and a past member of the Eagles in Grinnell.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, George and Pearl Minner; his maternal grandparents, Oakley and Fawn Mann; step father, Howard Heck; and several friends: Fred Riddle, John Light, Kenny King, John Ahrens and Jim Ryther.

Steve’s memory will be honored by his father, Larry (& Nancy) Minner of Grinnell; his mother, Donna Heck of Houston, TX; a sister, LuAnn (& Jim) Shaffer of Houston, TX; a brother, David (& Mary Kay) Minner of Denver, CO; special friend, Jackie Minner; step son, Richard (& Shana) Palmer of Altoona; three step grandchildren: Ryker, Warrick and Ailis; special friends who Steve considered brothers: Adam, Dan, Jerry, Scott, Eddie, Nick, Damon and Tom; along with step brothers, step sisters, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will begin at 10:30 Thursday, October 4, 2018 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma.
A visitation/luncheon will follow the service at the Hope Community Church in Montezuma.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association or Moose Charities.
