Oskaloosa–The William Penn University Statesmen (10-19, 3-11 Heart) looked to get some retribution and split a series with the Clarke University Pride (13-16, 12-4 Heart).

Unfortunately for the home team they would suffer a pair of setbacks by a score of 5-0 and 6-4 in the nightcap.

CU 5, WPU 0

The Statesmen bats were held quiet after a good performance from the Pride pitching staff. Six Statesmen logged a hit but none of them were able to cross the plate.

The visitors outhit William Penn 7-6.

Nick Seipel (SR/Rosemont, Minn.) got the start on the mound for the Statesmen and went 5.2 innings, allowing five runs on seven hits, striking out one and walking three. Nick Bruns (JR/Frankfort, Ill.) pitched well out of the bullpen, pitching 1.1 innings of perfect ball.

CU 6, WPU 4

William Penn put up a valiant effort in the nightcap but the Pride were just too much. The statesmen led for a majority of the game but Clarke wouldn’t go away and ended up taking the win.

Tom Przekwas (JR/Chicago, Ill.) started on the hill and went 3.1 innings, allowing three runs on five hits, exiting the game with the lead intact. Unfortunately, the Statesmen bullpen and defense squandered the lead late.

The Pride outhit William Penn 10-9 and edged the home team in the error column 3-1.

Three Statesmen finished with multi-hit performances.

Next Up: William Penn will host a doubleheader with Baker on Tuesday, April 3rd, starting at 4 p.m.
