Statesmen Shut Out in Regular Season Finale

William Penn University Athletics

Fulton, Mo.–The William Penn men’s soccer team failed to add to its recent momentum in falling 2-0 to William Woods in non-conference action Tuesday.

The Statesmen (5-10-2), who had their three-game winning streak snapped, were outshot 14-9.

After a scoreless first half, the Owls (8-7-1) finally broke through just 26 seconds after the break and then added another goal in the 77th minute for good measure.

Tyler Mather (Jr., Des Moines, Iowa Western CC) and Jeff Kelly (So., Ottumwa, Indian Hills CC) each posted two shots to pace the offense Tuesday.

Sam Gurski (So., Beaumont, Texas, West Brook HS) managed four saves in the start, but was issued a red card late in the matchup and will be forced to sit out Sunday’s first round Midwest Collegiate Conference Tournament game against #25 Ashford. The contest (#3 vs. #6) is set for 2 p.m. in Clinton.
