Statesmen Shut Out by Ashford

The William Penn Statesmen couldn't contain Ashford Wednesday night at home

Oskaloosa–Poor bookends negated an otherwise solid outing by the William Penn men’s soccer team in a 4-0 loss to Ashford in Midwest Collegiate Conference action Wednesday.

The Statesmen (1-7-1, 0-3 MCC) were outshot 24-7, but held their own against the Saints (7-3, 2-1 MCC) from the 13th minute to the 82nd minute.

Unfortunately, Ashford put two in the back of the net at the 11:10 and 11:46 marks and then added two more in the 83rd and 88th minutes to secure the win.

Tyler Mather (Jr., Des Moines, Iowa Western CC) recorded three attempts in headlining the offensive attack, while Sam Gurski (So., Beaumont, Texas, West Brook HS) was again busy between the pipes with 11 saves.

Next: William Penn travels to La Crosse, Wis. Saturday to face Viterbo in MCC action at 3 p.m.
