Statesmen Shut Out Against Top-Ranked Grand View
Des Moines–The William Penn wrestling team got to feel like every other team in the NAIA Tuesday night as it was defeated 48-0 by #1 Grand View in dual-meet action.
Unfortunately, only four of the nine contested matches went the distance for the Statesmen, who are now 1-2 in duals this year.
Kyle Soderblom (Jr., Newton, Iowa, Biology) had the closest face-off, falling 6-5 to Derrick Hawkins at 197 pounds.
149-pounder Angelo Kelly (So., Ottumwa, Iowa, Physical Education) also lost a 6-2 decision to Justian Dixon, while Charlton Benjamin (Jr., Atlanta, Ga., Sociology) dropped an 11-3 major decision to Quinten Haynes at 157 pounds.
Next: William Penn travels to Sioux City Saturday to compete in the Briar Cliff Open. Action begins at 9 a.m.
