Statesmen of the Week: Eric Garigan and Joanna Vanderwood

Oskaloosa–Men’s lacrosse player Eric Garigan (Grad., Tucson, Ariz., Master’s of Organizational Leadership) and women’s wrestler Joanna Vanderwood (Jr., Graham, Wash., Nursing) have been named Statesmen of the Week for the week of February 19-25, presented by Gardner-Collier Jewelry.

Garigan held down the #9 team in the nation last Saturday, permitting Siena Heights (Mich.) to score just eight goals in a 22-8 victory. The graduate student posted 12 saves against 26 total shots faced. He also managed three ground balls.

Vanderwood entered last Saturday’s Heart of America Athletic Conference Championship as the #3 seed, but came away with the title. Going 4-0 overall (two technical falls), she upset the highest two seeds, both of whom are ranked among the top seven in the NAIA. Her championship bout victory came via a score in the final seconds.
