Statesmen Fall in Low-Scoring Affair to Culver-Stockton

Canton, Mo.–The William Penn women’s soccer team was unable to counter the only goal of the afternoon by Culver-Stockton as it dropped a 1-0 Heart of America Athletic Conference matchup Friday.

The Statesmen (6-6-2, 3-5-2 Heart) permitted just 12 shots, but only managed six shots of their own.

Despite not recording a shot, the visitors kept the Wildcats (7-3-5, 5-2-3 Heart) off the scoreboard through the first half.

Unfortunately, C-SC finally broke through at the 53:36 mark. WPU put together a much better second period, tallying six attempts (four on goal), but failed to get one in the netting.

Heidi Gill (Buncrana, Ireland, Exercise Science) and Anna Museler (Sr., Dresden, Germany, Engineering) both produced two shots, while Emma Billings (Jr., Salt Lake City, Utah, Psychology) kept the game tight with six saves.

“We shot ourselves in the foot, and did not decide to start playing until we were down,” Head Coach Kaleb Preston said. “We got exactly what we deserved today.”

Next Up: William Penn travels to Dubuque, Iowa next Tuesday to face Clarke in Heart play at 5 p.m.
