Statesmen End Fall Slate by Hosting Iowa Intercollegiate

Amana–The William Penn men’s golf team was fortunate to sneak in one more tournament this autumn as it hosted the Iowa Intercollegiate Monday and Tuesday.

The Statesmen finished seventh out of 11 teams with a final tally of 647 (327-320) at the par-72 Amana Colonies Golf Course. Mount Mercy held off St. Ambrose for the team trophy at 618 (306-312), winning by seven strokes.

John Milne of Mount Mercy matched his team’s performance by holding on for medalist honors at 149 (70-79), defeating two individuals by just one swing.

Freshman Shane Goldsmith (Benoni, South Africa, St. Dunstans College) concluded his first collegiate fall by once again leading the navy and gold. He tied for 16th (out of 53 players) at 159 (79-80), while Byron Lindeque (Fr., Boksburg, South Africa, Christian Brothers College) also managed a top-20 finish in a tie for 18th at 160 (81-79).

Adriaan de Villiers (Jr., Akasia, South Africa, Akasia HS) was next in 28th at 163 (83-80). Evan Thomas (Sr., Oskaloosa, Oskaloosa HS) placed 29th at 165 (84-81) and Geoff Dammann (Jr., Wyoming, Midland HS) was 34th at 171 (87-84).
