Statesmen Continue Outdoor Season in Pella
Pella–The William Penn women’s track and field team sent a small group west down Highway 163 as it competed in the Central Dutch Invitational Saturday.
WPU had four individuals finish in the top half of their respective battles, led by a pair of high placings by Phoebe Burt (Sr., Coralville, Iowa, Sociology). The senior was fourth in the discus at 142-5 and sixth in the shot put at 38-7.
Emmalee Wells-Stout (Fr., Oskaloosa, Iowa, Business Management) also landed in the top 10, ending up ninth in the 100-meter hurdles in 15.94 seconds.
Claire Rye (Fr., Plymouth, Iowa, Biology), in 18th in the 3,000-meter run (11:18.77), and Lilly Ostert (Jr., Madrid, Iowa, Exercise Science), in 23rd in the 100-meter dash (12.87), produced strong performances as well.
“The few ladies who competed had really good days in some okay-ish weather,” Head Coach Victoria Vinokur said. “We had several PRs, headlined by Phoebe Burt just missing a national-qualifying standard in the discus. It is good to be in a solid spot this early in the season.”
Next Up: William Penn travels to Fayette, Mo. next Thursday and Friday to compete in the Central Methodist Invitational.
