Statesmen Close Season at MNU

Olathe, Kan.–The William Penn women’s basketball team finished its 2023-2024 campaign Saturday with a 94-57 loss to MidAmerica Nazarene in Heart of America Athletic Conference play.

WPU (4-24, 3-21 Heart) was outshot 51.6%-32.8%, but won the rebounding battle 40-37. Unfortunately, the navy and gold also committed 19 turnovers (10 for MNU).

The visitors started well, pulling out to an 11-5 lead midway through the first period. The Pioneers (18-10, 17-7 Heart) responded, however, and eventually went up 25-16 after 10 minutes of play.

It only got worse from there for WPU in a game that featured 22 total three-pointers (13-9 in favor of the home team). William Penn was only outscored 16-15 in the third quarter, but the matchup was well decided at that point.

Alyssa Hames (Jr., Ackley, Iowa, Psychology) paced the visitors with 18 points on 8-for-13 shooting. Ally Stewart (Sr., Victoria, Australia, Sports Management) was next with 15 points, including making four three-pointers, while Aiesha Feagins (Jr., Grand Prairie, Texas, Applied Mathematics) also joined the double-digit club with 10 points.

Aysia Arrowood (Jr., Wichita, Kan., Sports Management) added six points, and Mercer Roberts (Sr., Myrtle Beach, S.C., Wellness and Recreation) finished with five in addition to 13 rebounds and four assists.
